Successful photovoltaic system in Carinthia: Electricity for 4,000 households
near St. Veit, directly on the expressway, can be found a remarkable photovoltaic system that has been successfully operated for 13 years. This facility extends over a open space of five hectares and was launched by the two investors Peter Prasser from Sonnenkraft and Meinhard Aicher. The state of Carinthia was also involved in this project as a silent partner. Aicher emphasizes that the system has been running consistently stable since its commissioning in 2011, without any significant disorders or necessary exchange work.
The positive energy balance of the system cannot be overlooked. According to Aicher, 15 million kilowatt hours of electricity have been generated since the construction, which leads to CO2 savings of around 5,250 tons. This corresponds to the annual power consumption of more than 4,000 households. It is impressive that investors are proud that despite its age, the system does not show any signs of fatigue.
outlook on future developments
A look into the future has already been thrown. Aicher and Prasser consider whether they are renewing the existing system; The technology in photovoltaics has made considerable progress in recent years. "We could increase our power yield by up to 50% solely by replacing the photovoltaic modules," says Aicher. The statement is based on the fact that the current modules are more efficient than the first models that were installed more than a decade ago.
In the context of photovoltaic systems, Carinthia is no longer just a new territory in 2024. Another example is Treibacher Industrie-AG, which has built the country's largest PV system this year. With 13,000 modules, it delivers ten percent of the necessary electricity for its own industry, which corresponds to a saving of 6,000 tons of CO2.
