New district captain in Spittal/Drau: Controversy and expectations

The matter around the appointment of the new district captain or the new district chief of Spittal/Drau causes a sensation. The Carinthian state government will make a decisive decision on Tuesday after the selection process has already been completed. Information indicates that Markus Lerch, the previous deputy of Klaus Brandner, who is retiring at the beginning of December, could take over the position. This was announced by the Carinthia team in a press release.

The FPÖ, on the other hand, expresses concerns and speaks of possible discrimination. Erwin Angerer, club chairman of the FPÖ, demands complete transparency in the selection process and criticizes that the two competitors, Sonja Berger and Claudia Unterrieder, were not adequately taken into account. Both women are highly qualified and applied, which underpins the accusations of the FPÖ. "It cannot be that again in the quiet closet - apparently party -politically motivated - top positions in the Carinthian state administration are awarded," explains Angerer.

reactions and possible consequences

The voices against such a decision become louder. Gerhard Köfer, Mayor of Spittal and head of Team Carinthia, regretted that the SPÖ did not take the chance to consider two equally competent women for the management. However, he gives Lerch his best wishes if he actually receives the post and hopes that his political proximity will not affect decisions.

Angerer warns that Lerch may not have emerged as a first -time one from the selection process, which indicates a possible broken law. These statements further heat the debate about fairness in the selection process, and the FPÖ has confirmed its demand for disclosing the selection criteria and documents. The situation remains tense and the coming days could be crucial for the future political landscape in Carinthia.
