Breakfast club in Steinfeld: A healthy start for school children

In Steinfeld an der Drau, a new concept for pupils at the elementary school was launched: the breakfast club. Here the children have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy breakfast before the lessons begin. This is an initiative that was launched by Mayor Ewald Tschabitscher and received the support of Ewald Wiedenbauer , President of Volkshilfe Kärnten, as well as from Andrea Penker , a community worker and board member of Volkshilfe Carinthia.

Especially in the hectic morning, it is difficult for many families to prepare a balanced breakfast for their children. Many students come to school hungry, which can have a negative impact on their concentration and performance. The introduction of the breakfast club aims to solve this problem and offer the children a healthy meal.

a healthy breakfast for everyone

In the breakfast club, the Steinfeld children are offered the opportunity to have breakfast in a relaxed environment. An employee named Rosi looks after the event, ensures an appetizing presentation of the buffet and also promotes respectful handling of the children. The time together before class enables the students not only to satisfy hunger, but also to establish social contacts and to start school in a good mood.

The offer is an enormous relief for parents because they know that their children are well looked after before class. In addition, the symbolic contribution for breakfast is only 50 cents, which makes it affordable for many families. Under the motto "Where the day begins with a smile", the breakfast club wants to create a positive atmosphere and let the students start the school day strengthened. The implementation of this program in Steinfeld follows the successful model, which was initiated a few years ago in Klagenfurt by the Volkshilfe Kärnten, as www.5min.at reports .
