In the Klagenfurt and Villach Region, five remarkable personalities for the choice of "heads of the year" have been positioned in the "Sport" category. By December 22nd, citizens have the opportunity to coordinate for their favorites. This is done as part of an initiative supported by Frierss, which recognizes the sporting achievements of local athletes.
Among the nominees is Marco Haller, a talented cyclist who took an impressive sixth place in the street race at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This result marks the best result of an Austrian in the long history of the men's street races at Olympics. Haller fought hard and was part of a strong group that sprinted for bronze before he drove past.

Another candidate is Johnny Hoogerland, a former cyclist who has lived in Carinthia since 2018 and operates a pension in Velden. He launched the "Wörther See Gravel Race", from which he also significantly profit as a route farmer. HOOGERLAND has also won world championship titles in his age group and brings a lot of experience in cycling into the region.
The snowboarder Martina Ankele has achieved a remarkable success in her still young career. Melissa Köck was responsible for the deaf winter games in Turkey. She won five gold medals in various disciplines such as Super-G, giant slalom and slalom. These successes are special because the Deaflympics only takes place every four years and Köck already celebrated their third participation.
