New sports center in Feldkirchen: groundbreaking for the future

The sports landscape in Feldkirchen is given an important upgrade: The club house of the local sports center at the Leopold-Arena is completely renovated after more than two decades of use. The groundbreaking ceremony for the extensive renovation work was recently carried out, and the project costs amount to around 1.5 million euros. By March 2025, the renovated building should be available for use, supported by funding from the federal, state and community.

The building complex built in 1982 had already been revitalized in 2001, but now a comprehensive renovation is necessary to meet today's standards. Mayor Martin Meetner emphasizes the importance of regional companies in this project, which includes, among other things, the companies M&R Bau and the roofing in Leopold. This ensures that economic added value remains in the region. "230 active athletes: Inside the SV M&R Feldkirchen and members of the tennis club benefit from this measure," added sports and youth councilor Helmut Kraßnig.

extensive modernizations

The renovated club house is equipped with modern hygiene and energy efficiency standards. This includes, for example, comprehensive thermal insulation, new showers, a photovoltaic system (PV system) and pellet heating. Martin Reininger, the site manager, also announces an improved irrigation of the sports fields, which has been designed for use for the next 40 years.

Governor Peter Kaiser emphasizes the need to save both intelligently and to invest clever. "The awarding of orders to local companies promotes economic added value in our region. It is important that we tap into several sources of financing in such projects to enable the renovation of one of the most renowned sports facilities in our district city," says Kaiser.

Financial support

The financing of the project is made up of several components: the state of Carinthia contributes 300,000 euros to the renovation, while the federal government provides around 750,000 euros through the municipal investment program (KIP). The rest, around 400,000 euros, is applied by the city of Feldkirchen and own funds of the sports club. This joint effort enables the urgently needed modernization of the club house, which is a cornerstone for the local sports community.

The general renovation of the club house is not just a step into the future for the athletes: inside, but a sign of the commitment of the community for a modern sports infrastructure. A report about the groundbreaking and other details can be found here
