Fraud mesh: False police officers rip off seniors in Carinthia!

In Carinthia, several serious attempts to fraud have been reported on the phone since December 6, which have particularly targeted older people. Callers who spoke as police officers or criminal officers claimed that relatives had caused a serious accident and urgently needed a deposit to escape a prison sentence. A shocking example is the story of an 85-year-old woman from Klagenfurt, who was caused by a false criminal officer to hand over 60,000 euros to allegedly free her daughter from prison. An attentive taxi driver recognized the fraud and alerted the police, so that worse could be prevented. According to the reporting Volksblatt , a 51-year-old woman was also betrayed by several tens of thousands of euros after she was put under pressure on the occasion of a supposed fatal accident of her brother.

police warn of fraud

The police have urged to warn such calls seriously. They advise those affected to immediately invest, contact the supposed victims themselves and to choose the police call 133. On the same day, an 89-year-old woman also received a call of a false police officer, which ended in an emotional chaos when she broke out into tears. Fortunately, a 79-year-old from Klagenfurt had been visited by her son at the right time, otherwise she might have fell into the trap when she was informed about a serious car accident. The Police Directorate 5-Section 53 has emphasized the urgency of these calls and appeals to all citizens and, if in doubt, immediately contact the local authorities.
