Large series of burglaries on tool companies: Romanian gang caught!
In a large -scale investigation against a Romanian group of perpetrators, the authorities in Austria and Romania recently carried out several arrests. Between September 2024 and January 2025 there were at least twelve break -ins into companies that produce precision tools from hard metals, especially tungsten carbide. The affected federal states include Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Styria, Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol. The cutting of sheet metal roofs or sheet metal facades with angle grinders was used as a break-in method, which indicates a sophisticated approach, as [5min.at] (https://www.5min.at/52025061224/9- Festival- Anbrueche-bei-bei-in-rehrän- Bundeslaunnern/)
The investigation was taken over by the State Criminal Police Office in Upper Austria (LKA OÖ) and took place in close cooperation with international police authorities such as Europol as well as the police and investigative authorities in Germany, France and the Czech Republic. The origin of the perpetrators is suspected in the Galati region in Romania, near the Moldova border. On January 18, 2025, a group of six was arrested in Sierning, Upper Austria.
coordinated actions and arrests
The proven burglaries stretched over Tyrol, Upper Austria and Styria. The Innsbruck public prosecutor's office issues European arrest warrants against five accomplices. In a further investigation, a coordinated police campaign in Romania culminated on June 17, 2025 in two house searches near Galati, while three accused were arrested and valuable items. The perpetrator's age group ranges from 20 to 53 years, and all arrested are Romanian citizens, as the investigators have noted.
In addition, further burglaries were recently uncovered during an investigation in Lower Austria, in which a group of Romanian citizens were arrested. This group is suspected of having been active in Vienna and Lower Austria between mid-April and the beginning of May and causing a total of 250,000 euros, as [Kurier] (https://kurier.at/chronik/niederoesterreich/nach-einbruechen-bei-baumas-baumaen-bande-fest, reported.international cooperation and support
The extensive international cooperation is funded by the oldest multilateral cooperation framework for cross -border police cooperation, interpol. Interpol enables the exchange of information between the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Germany and the international partners and supports the search for perpetrators and stolen objects. Interpol's headquarters are located in Lyon, France, and the organization offers resources to strengthen cooperation between the various national police authorities. This is also supported by the "@on-Netzwerk" financed by the EU Commission, which is directed by the Italian anti-creditor investigation directorate, as BKA.
The investigation testifies to the complexity and the international dimension of crime, in which the arrested obvious and stolen tools and construction machinery offered themselves on the black market. This stitch brought them a significant financial profit, which underlines the prey values of over one million euros.
