Great fire in Pernersdorf: Fire brigade in large -scale operation against flames!
Pernersdorf, Österreich - on June 12, 2025, at 3:49 p.m., a serious fire broke out in Pernersdorf, Hollabrunn district, Lower Austria. The flames hit the roof structure of a residential building, which resulted in a massive alarm by the fire brigade. A total of 105 fire brigade members of 13 different fire brigades were deployed, including Haugsdorf, Hollabrunn, Guntersdorf and Kleinhöflein. A resident had reported a missing person, but fortunately this assumption was not confirmed. In the meantime, a large column of smoke was visible during the arrival of the emergency services, which indicated the severity of the fire.
The fire fighting was extremely challenging. The dense development and the strong winking of the building made it difficult to extinguish the extinguishing attack, which was carried out with a total of four extinguishing lines for fire fighting and four other lines for protecting adjacent buildings. The fire developed so rapidly that there were several deforances, including from stored containers and a gas bottle. Another extinguishing rate was made more difficult by the enormous heat development.
water withdrawal and support from the municipality
The water supply on site was inadequate. Therefore, tank fire vehicles were used to take water, which had to draw water from a fountain, among other things. However, this was soon empty. The nearby ÖBB route was temporarily blocked in order to enable the extinguishing water supply via the tracks. The emergency services were also supported by three police patrols, two vehicles from the Red Cross and employees of the Netzen Austria / Evn.
A turntable ladder from Hollabrunn was also used to carry out extinguishing measures from the height. The strong smoke development and the long service duration required a large number of respiratory protective equipment carriers, which is why additional forces had to be alerted. In order to better explore the situation, a drone with a thermal imaging camera was even used. The mayor of Pernersdorf expressed his sympathy with those affected and reported that they had already found shelter. In addition, the municipality will organize emergency beds for those affected.
future challenges and statistics
The reversal work is expected to take longer due to the high fire load. In Austria, as in Germany, the statistics on fire events are of central importance in order to better prevent future incidents and to optimally develop the emergency services. For example, Feuertrutz shows how important regular updates and the closure of data gaps in fire protection are. Such statistics could also increase the effectiveness of fire fighting in situations such as that in Pernersdorf.
