Driver's license away: Raser flashes at 158 km/h in the 100 zone!

Penk, Österreich - On Saturday morning, an 18-year-old test guide license owner from the Spittal/Drau district on the Mölltal Bundesstraße (B106) near Penk was caught by the police with a speed crossing of 158 km/h. A speed limit of 100 km/h applies on this route. The young driver overtook a vehicle in the outdoor area towards Spittal, which resulted in the massive exceeding of the speed limit. The speed violation was documented by a laser measurement. The driver was stopped by the police directly on site and his driver's license was taken on the spot. He was also prohibited from continuing. The incident is reported to the district administration of Spittal/Drau, where the further legal steps are initiated.

The current regulations on the speed of speed and their consequences are becoming increasingly stricter. From March 1, 2024, vehicles can be permanently confiscated and sold at extreme speed violations. These changes were decided in July 2023 to increase traffic safety. In accordance with the new provisions, the police can already take a * preliminary confiscation * if more than 60 km/h in the local area or more than 70 km/h are exceeded. The final decision on the loss of the vehicle lies with the authority, which must be informed about the seizure within two weeks.

new regulations at a glance

The small set of rules for the procedure of vehicle fitting intensity stipulates that the authority decides on a final retention of the vehicle within two weeks. If the decision is not timed, the vehicle will be returned. There are also special regulations for repeated violations. Vehicles from drivers who have been punished within four years due to speed overrun can also be confiscated. The proceeds from the sale of such vehicles go 70 percent to the traffic safety fund and 30 percent to the respective federal state or the federal government.

The consequences for drivers who violate traffic rules are serious. Apart from fines and driving license withdrawal, re -training as well as traffic psychological and official medical examinations must also be completed. With an exceeding of more than 40 km/h in the area or 50 km/h outside, the driver's license is withdrawn. It is particularly striking that a particularly large number of speed violations can be found in the statistics of official data. In 2024, for example, the most common administrative offense among men was recorded with 1,865,722 speed violations, 547.013.

The official official statistics on traffic problems store all violations that endanger traffic safety. As of January 1, 2025, around 10.1 million people were registered in the driving suitability register, including a significant number of speed violations. These statistics underline the need for the new laws on traffic safety, which are also confirmed by the last incidents.

For the 18-year-old driver, this could have been the last warning. In view of the prevailing strictness in the pursuit of speeding speeds, it would be advisable to rethink your own driving habits. The topic of speed in road traffic remains a central concern in the social discussion of traffic safety.
