Fresh country products: SPAR and Gehrer rely on regionality!
The importance of regional products is increasingly gaining relevance in Austrian food supply. This becomes particularly clear using the example of the vegetable driver Walter Gehrer and his daughter Fabienne, who have been partners of SPAR for a whole five decades. Spar Vorarlberg offers an impressive range of over 3,000 country products that are freshly and in close cooperation with local agriculture. This close cooperation not only promotes the local economy, but also ensures high -quality local supply for the population.
The Ländle season has started, and the freshly harvested products, which include lettuce, ice salad and kohlrabi, immediately reach the shelves of the savings markets. The harvest takes place from 6 a.m. and thus enables delivery to the savings center in Dornbirn on the same day. There, the products are already available for customers in the afternoon. These short transport routes protect the environment and guarantee full taste, emphasizes Walter Gehrer.
sustainability and regionality in focus
Walter Gehrer has placed special emphasis on sustainability. It only plants seedlings himself and thus ensures the high quality of the products, which are also all awarded with the Ländle quality seal of approval. SPAR supports local and regional partner companies and thus actively contributes to strengthening Vorarlberg agriculture and industry. This funding has a direct impact on the region: Around 99 % of the Vorarlberg population can shop in their residential community and thus benefit from the nationwide supply.
The increasing importance of regional value chains is also supported by various studies and initiatives such as the FIBL Austria. These authorities link regionality with sustainability criteria and show that regional origin is not only crucial for the taste, but also promotes more environmentally friendly production methods and resilient structures. The sustainable value chains contribute to the creation of transparency and trust in consumers, which is of particular relevance in times of global crises.
consumer information systems and transparency
fibl conducts projects for the analysis of existing value chains in order to identify their strengths and weaknesses and thereby improve regional production. In order to provide consumers more transparent information about the sustainability services of regional products, the FIBL also develops tools such as "Sure: Food", with which the sustainability effects along the entire value chain can be evaluated.
Overall, it can be seen that the close networking of agriculture and food sellers, such as Spar, not only strengthens the local economy, but also makes a valuable contribution to sustainability and to ensure high -quality food offerings. The products are currently available in the markets until June 28, 2025 as long as stocks last, and the prices are including taxes, but exclusive deposit. Not all articles are available throughout Austria.
