FPÖ criticism: Gewessler and Zadic under fire for expensive editions!

Österreich - The editions of Leonore Gewessler and Alma Zadic are currently at the center of the criticism of the FPÖ. As Kosmo , the Ministry of Climate Protection in the second half of 2023 issued amazing 446,000 euros for meals and office equipment. This information was brought to light by a parliamentary request from the FPÖ general secretary Michael Schledlitz.

In the Ministry of Justice under Zadic, the expenditure amounted to EUR 105,617.73 in the same period. This sum was made up of various posts, including 33,423.78 euros for new jobs and EUR 15,895.61 for catering costs in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the catering costs were even 56,298.34 euros. The expenses coincide mainly with official occasions such as receptions and meetings.

political reactions

fpö general secretary Schledlitz was outraged by this “What does the world cost?” Mentality and asked the question of what happened to the old office furniture. Gewessler, who runs their expenses in the third and fourth quarter to over 100,000 euros for new office furniture, is therefore faced with several allegations.

From the beginning of December, Zadic was represented by Social Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) because she was in motherhood. This personnel change takes place in the context of the political dispute over climate protection, which is criticized despite the green participation in the government.

climate protection and challenges

Despite the published editions, critics have also pointed out the shortcomings of climate policy in Austria. As Today, the Court of Auditors locates the need for action in climate protection. Of 20 earlier recommendations, many were neither implemented nor only partially taken into account. This leads to warnings of enormous costs based on missing climate goals.

The greenhouse gas emissions dropped by 5.0 % and 5.3 % in 2022 and 2023, but it is forecast that the decline in total emissions cannot be continued in the coming years. Austria could not meet the Union law targets for greenhouse gas reduction by 2030, which also results in a current violation procedure for the late submission of national energy and climate plans.

Austria's climate goals in an international context

Austria pursues ambitious climatic goals that were determined in the context of international agreements such as the Paris Agreement. This came into force in 2016 and aims to limit the global temperature increase to a maximum of 2 degrees Celsius. European guidelines are aimed at releasing no more greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, with a reduction of 48 percent being sought by 2030. Information on this can be found on the official page oesterreich.gv.at

Overall, the challenges, both in terms of budget transparency and the achievement of the climate goals, are still on the agenda in Austrian politics. In view of the necessary political measures to achieve climate neutrality by 2040
