Vacation begins and festivals: Mega traffic jams in western Austria threaten!
This coming weekend, more precisely on Saturday, July 26, 2025, the summer vacation will begin in five German federal states, including Berlin and Hamburg. This leads to an enormous increase in traffic volume, especially in Western Austria. Around 1.7 million pupils and their legal guardians start the holidays, which, according to ARBÖ, will have significant traffic jams and delays on the streets. Already on Friday, July 25th, an increased volume of traffic is expected, in particular in the state capitals of Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg, since over 656,000 students are received.
delays will be noticeable on Saturday from the morning on the most important transit routes in Western Austria, Carinthia, Upper Austria and Styria. Particularly endangered routes are the burner highway (A13) in front of the Schönberg toll point and the construction site in front of the Luegbrücke, the Inntal Autobahn (A12) in the Innsbruck area and the Karawankent tunnel (A11) in front of the Karawankent tunnel. The Pyhrnautobahn (A9) and the Tauern Autobahn (A10) in the Salzburg area, especially in front of the tunnel portals, are also critical points.
major events ensure additional traffic volume
In parallel at the beginning of the holiday, there are several major events in St. Pölten on Saturday, which bring additional dust and delay risk. The "Austrian Bowl XL" begins at 7:00 p.m. when the Danube Dragons meet AFC Vienna Vikings. The finale of the women's league, the Ladies Bowl XXVI, starts at 3:00 p.m. Both events attract thousands of fans, who should ensure inconvenience in particular on the busy streets such as the Bimbo Binder-promenade, Liese-Prokop-Allee, Wiener Strasse (B1) and Kremser Schnellstraße (S33)In addition, the Summer Blues Festival will take place on Lake Ratzersdorfer from 6:00 p.m., where live appearances such as Peter Kern and Roger C. Wade are expected. There are also delays on the same main traffic routes here.
