EU plans for hydrogen filling stations: Million losses threaten!
Schweden - The expansion of the hydrogen infrastructure in the European Union faces major challenges. According to a [report by Oekonews] (https://www2.oekonews.at/Ganplaned- Hydrogen tankstill-koennen-jährliche-loser-loser-in -million causes, the faulty distribution of planned water-fabric stamps in some EU countries could cause losses in double-digit cornerstones every year. A study by the Technical University of Chalmers in Sweden has shown that the requirements for the establishment of these petrol stations often do not meet the actual needs.
The EU regulations require that a hydrogen filling station must be set up every 200 kilometers on main roads every 200 kilometers and in every urban hub. The researchers found that the existing infrastructure is not optimally tailored to the traffic flows in many Member States. For example, according to the modeling in France, capacity must be seven times higher than the EU requirements for 2030, while countries such as Bulgaria, Romania and Greece could have potentially unused capacities.
new regulations for alternative fuels
In order to cope with the challenges and meet the requirements, the [Ordinance on the Infrastructure for Alternative Fuels (Afir)] (https://eur-lex.europa.eu/de/legal-content/summary/deployment-falternative-fuels-fuels- infrastructure.html) came into force in 2023. This determines binding national goals for building an infrastructure for alternative fuels in the EU member states. This not only includes hydrogen filling stations, but also the provision of publicly accessible charging stations for electric vehicles.
According to the new regulation, charging stations along the TEN-V network must offer an output of at least 400 kW. They should even be increased to 600 kW by 2027. In addition, hydrogen filling stations along the TEN-T and comprehensive network must be a maximum of 200 kilometers apart by 2030. At least one hydrogen filling station should be available in every urban hub.
goals of EU policy
These provisions are part of the comprehensive EU climate capt "Fit for 55", which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 percent by 2030. The regulation, valid from October 12, 2023, will be applied from April 13, 2024 and aims to ensure the interoperability and user -friendliness of the charging infrastructure. This also includes binding regulations on information for users, data provision and payment to ensure that all citizens have simple access to alternative fuels.
Overall, research and the new legislation shows that the EU is on the right track to create a comprehensive and efficient infrastructure for alternative fuels. However, there is a lot of work ahead of us to ensure that these plans are effectively implemented in practice.
