First trilateral exercise Trias25 strengthens Austria-Switzerland band!

Truppenübungsplatz Allentsteig, 3811 Allentsteig, Österreich - On May 1, 2025, the Austrian Minister of Defense Klaudia Tanner and her Swiss counterpart Martin Pfister came to the Allensteig in Lower Austria. They visited the multinational exercise "Trias25", which started on April 15, 2025 and continues until May 9, 2025. The exercise is an important step in military cooperation between Austria and Switzerland, in which around 950 Swiss, 150 Germans and 200 Austrian soldiers take part. This is the first exercise of its kind to this extent.

During the visit, Minister Tanner emphasized the essential importance of international cooperation in the field of defense. The "Trias25" exercise uses a variety of technical means, including off-road vehicles, combat and combat riflemans as well as drones to improve cooperation and operational readiness. Such initiatives are particularly relevant because the visit of Minister Pfister is his first trip abroad and is a sign of the intensive cooperation between the two countries, which is manifested in 150 projects in 13 bilateral agreements.

Common military exercise and cyber cooperation

The cooperation between Austria and Switzerland is also continued in other areas. In April 2024, an Austrian quota took part in the international cyber exercise "Locked Shields 24" in Switzerland. Furthermore, the cooperation with the Deutsche Bundeswehr has been intensive for decades, which is reflected in regular joint exercises for preparation for use.

These multinational exercises are not only limited to Austria and Switzerland. At the European level, the United States, Germany and 26 other countries recently launched “Defender 2023”, a large -scale maneuver that has been running since April 22, 2023. Around 9,000 US soldiers and 17,000 soldiers from European countries take part in this maneuver, which illustrates the dimension and strategic cooperation within NATO. The goal is to demonstrate the ability to quickly relocate troops and equipment.

In addition, the Bundeswehr plans another exercise in June called "Air Defender 2023", which will take place mainly in Germany from June 12th to June 23. 220 aircraft from 24 countries take part in this exercise and once again shows how important the safety of allies in Europe is and how to deter potential threats to peace.

Overall, the "Trias25" exercise is in a broader context of military cooperation and security in Europe. It is a step into the future for the defense strategies of Austria, Switzerland and their partners.
