Ed Sheeran surprises with a new album Play - a musical adventure!
New Orleans, USA - Ed Sheeran causes excitement in the music scene with the announcement of his new album, which is entitled "Play". This will be released on September 12, 2025 and marks an exciting turn in Sheeran's career. In a conversation about the upcoming album, the singer expressed the desire to enter "Play" "New Musical Terrain". He breaks the tradition of naming his albums based on mathematical signs that shaped his previous works. Finally, albums with titles such as "Plus", "Multiply", "Divide" and "Equals" appeared, which is a clear departure from this usual name.
The first single from the new album, "Azizam", was released on April 4, 2025. This song is not only a look at its artistic development, but also inspired by Persian music. "Azizam", which means "my favorite", represents a new facet in Sheeran's work and was presented for the first time during a street performance in New Orleans. In an Instagram contribution he also stated that he was looking forward to the publication of the album and was seen with producer Ilya Salmanzadeh in the studio, where he sang parts of the song: "And if love is only a game, come and play".
The future of Ed Sheeran
For the time after "Play", Ed Sheeran has already announced a new series of albums. These will bear the titles "Pause", "Rewind", "Fast Forward" and "Stop". Furthermore, Sheeran has expressed his interest in a posthumous album entitled "Eject", which should contain some of his best songs from different phases of life.
The upcoming work "Play" will be Sheerans eighth studio album. His last LP, "Autumn Variations", was released in 2023 and took 4th place on the Billboard 200 list. While he is preparing for the release of his new album, Sheeran is still on world tour and promotes his music in different cities, including a surprising acoustic performance in a Boston pub, during which he presented classics such as "Galway Girl" and "Shape of You".
