Drug smugglers and cocaine captain dies tragically in road traffic

Erdevik, Serbien - Vladislav Funstajn, a convicted drug smuggler, died tragically in a traffic accident near Erdvik, Serbia. The 53-year-old lost control of his Fiat for unexplained reasons, fell into a ditch. Fortunately, a passenger, i.e.dj.

funstajn was no stranger to the world of drug trafficking. In 2019 he was sentenced to seven years in prison after smuggling 800 kilograms of cocaine. When he was arrested, he was identified as the captain of the ship "Seascape", on which the drugs, marked with the image of the assassin Gavrilo Princip, were ensured. In addition to his prison sentence, he was also fined 130 million euros.

Litigation and discharge

A parallel procedure in Serbia was discontinued in March 2022 to avoid double punishment. Funstajn therefore only spent almost three years behind bars before being released in 2022 due to good leadership and consideration of pre -trial detention. The Serbian judiciary refrained from initiating its own procedure against it.

After his death, investigations into the course of the accident were initiated. The police checks the accident car technically to identify possible technical defects. The circumstances of his accident raise questions and could have further investigations.

drug trafficking in Europe: a worrying trend

Funstajn's death is in the context of an intensive drug market in Europe. A current analysis of the European drug market shows that the availability of drugs, especially cocaine, has increased. According to the European Drug Report 2024, record quantities of cocaine (at least 323 tons) were ensured in the EU in 2022. These findings illustrate the challenges that the EU faces in combating drug trafficking.

The drug investigators in Germany have recently discovered two large cocaine deliveries on vehicle controls on the motorway. During a check at the Peppeppenhoven-West rest area, officials found over 35 kilograms of cocaine in the car of a 25-year-old. These drugs had a street sales value of around 2.5 million euros and were poorly disguised in a cardboard box in the spare adada. The 25-year-old was on the way from Belgium to Slovenia, a route that is very popular with drug smugglers.

This and other finds show the increasing brutality and the challenges in drug trafficking. There are political concerns with regard to the increase in violence and the exploitation of minors due to drug crime. The new developments and methods in drug trafficking must therefore be continuously observed in order to take effective measures.
