Dobrindt is planning negotiations with Taliban: Deportation in conversation!
Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt plans to lead direct negotiations with the Taliban about the deportation of Afghan criminals. The contacts are currently only running through third parties, but Dobrindt emphasizes that this form of communication cannot be a permanent solution. He also intends to conclude an agreement with the Syrian government to withdraw its citizens. According to Dobrindt, there are significant challenges in the returns to Syria and Afghanistan, despite the existing direct contacts with Syria.
Apart from the negotiations with Afghanistan and Syria, the humanitarian situation in these countries is worrying. Afghanistan, one of the poorest countries in the world, has been suffering from wars for decades. The return of the Taliban in the summer of 2021 led to a decline in international help, which further worsened the living conditions. Women in particular are particularly affected by the uncertain situation, since their opportunities for participation in social life are severely restricted.
political demands from Saxony-Anhalt
in Saxony-Anhalt currently live around 2,450 Afghan and 450 Syrian citizens who have bans, whereby the priority is to be put on their review for criminals and dangers. In addition, a stop of the family reunification is required for those who are entitled to subsidiary. At the moment, 1,000 visas for family reunification can be issued per month; In 2023, 1,115 Afghan and 67,044 Syrian citizens received subsidiary protection.
Current developments and outlook
The termination of the federal recording program Afghanistan, which was launched in 2022, is also under discussion. The program is particularly aimed at endangered Afghans, not at local forces. The federal government and Syria are considered necessary to re -assess the security situation in Afghanistan and Syria. Legal judgments show that returns of healthy male Afghans are fundamentally possible. The Higher Administrative Court of Münster also found that Syrians generally no longer have to expect persecution without military service in Syria.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner from Austria supports Dobrindt's projects and sees them as a step towards a stricter asylum policy in Europe. Karner reported progress in the training of security forces and questions about return and deportation. Recently, a deportation of a Syrian criminal offender to Syria was successfully carried out as a failed deportation. This illustrates the progressive dialogue with the Syrian leadership, which is also promoted by several German government members, including Dobrindt's predecessor Nancy Faeser.
Developments in relation to asylum and migration remain complex and require a differentiated view of the situation in the countries of origin. Further information on the migration trends in Europe can be found on the website of Eurostat .
