Changan opens the first NEV factory in Thailand: a milestone for industry!

Rayong, Thailand - On May 21, 2025, Changan Automobile officially started production in its first international production facility for New Energy Vehicles (NEV) in Rayong, Thailand. This facility is considered a significant step for the company because it marks the change from the pure export of products to a comprehensive export strategy for industrial ecosystems. The Rayong system includes manufacturing systems, research and development processes as well as standards for the supply chain, which raises an environmentally friendly and intelligent model for sustainable global activities. The work has an area of around 245 RAI (392,000 square meters) and consists of five workshops: welding, painting, general assembly, engineontal and battery production.

The opening of the factory falls together with the introduction of the 28.59 millionth vehicle, a Deepal S05 with right-wing steering. These significant events not only underline the growth of Changan, but also the importance of the "Vast Ocean Plan", which aims to raise five international markets- Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Central and South America, Europe and Eurasia- to the same strategic level as the Chinese market. In this context, Zhu Huarong, Chairman of Changan, emphasizes that production in Rayong should become a global standard for sustainable mobility.

innovative production processes and sustainability

The new factory in Thailand uses advanced technologies to reduce energy consumption per vehicle by around 20 %. Daylight, photovoltaic systems and gray and rainwater recycling are used for this. Automation and innovative assembly procedures also contribute to efficiency and high product quality. Changan is planning an annual production capacity of 200,000 units by 2027, including the Chang-A, Deepal and Avatr brands, which are manufactured here.

In recent years, Changan has carried out over 14,000 patent and brand launches in international markets such as Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Germany. This is part of the company's comprehensive strategy, which also includes the construction of a total of 20 factories worldwide as well as the construction of nine CKD plants and a fully automatic vehicle plant. The global expansion strategy, which has been recorded in 2023 trip since the introduction of the "Vast Ocean Plans", can be seen in record -breaking sales abroad in 2024.

technological and infrastructural challenges

In parallel to the activities of Changan, the European Union places high demands on the infrastructure for electromobility. Studies show that a 320 percent increase in infrastructure expansion is required to meet the need for charging stations and renewable energies in the coming years. A focus on High Power Charger (HPC) with 350 kW and beyond is considered necessary to increase the acceptance of electric vehicles. According to the KPMG, over 1,000 charging stations per day must be installed to comply with the regulatory goals of the EU.

The urgency of such infrastructural measures shows how much the automotive industry will have to be transformed in the coming years. Changan's commitment to sustainable mobility and technological innovation could not only advance the company, but also play an important role in the broader development of sustainable mobility worldwide.

Overall, the opening of the NEV factory in Thailand marks an important step for Changan, while the company is expanding its global presence and actively contributing to the transformation of the automotive industry into a sustainable future.

Changan has already carried out brand launches in Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Germany. Seven new models have been introduced on the Thai market since November 2023, with over 14,000 units sold. The company's lean management strategy integrates seven operational systems and six core processes to maximize efficiency and quality in production. The new work in Rayong not only offers products, but also a model for an innovative, resistant supply chain between China and Thailand.
