Carsten Schneider: New Interim President of Central European University!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - The Central European University (CEU) has made a change at the top: Professor Carsten Q. Schneider was appointed interim president and rector today. This was announced by the CEU supervisory board. His term of office begins on August 1, 2025 and ends on July 31, 2026. The board emphasized that the decision was made after a thorough selection process, which was led by a search committee, consisting of members of the Supervisory Board and the Senate of the CEU, such as ots.at reported.
Schneider has been part of the CEU since 2004, where he works as a pro-Rector for outdoor relationships and professor of political science. His research focus is on political regime change processes and social science methodology. In his first explanation as interim president, he said: "I feel honored by the trust that you put in me. [...] I will focus on our common mission with integrity, openness and focus." The chairman of the supervisory board, Carol Christ, welcomed his appointment: "His deep knowledge of the CEU [...] makes it except to lead us through this transition phase," she added ceu.edu .
successor from Shalini Randeria
The former President, Shalini Randeria, announced her resignation in November 2024 to devote further research projects. It will perform its functions by the end of the academic year in July 2025 and emphasized that working with the CEU community was a remarkable experience. "Together we asked ourselves the challenges and tirelessly worked on the fact that CEU remains a place of academic excellence," she said. From April 2025, the CEU search committee will also initiate an international selection process for the next president, which is expected to begin in August 2026.
