Election campaign scandal: SPÖ punished for premature advertising!
In the run -up to the Burgenland state election, which is scheduled for January 19, new regulations for election advertising were introduced. According to ORF Burgenland , the parties were only allowed to start advertising from October 29, 2024. Nevertheless, SPÖ MP Dax made the headlines after investing his personal budget of 100 euros via an online posting for a preferred voice-at a time when such advertising measures were not yet allowed. The ÖVP provided a representation of the fact against him about a violation of the Party Promotion Act. After examination it was found that Dax violated the regulation and a sanction was imposed. The exact amount of the punishment remains secret, and the SPÖ has taken note of the decision without an objection.

The ÖVP itself also faces a procedure after the SPÖ has shown a possible violation in the context of an election campaign article in its magazine "bottom line". Here, too, the procedure still runs on how the information from the state media service shows. Important components in this context are the precise regulations on the election advertising and the temporal component, which is particularly evaluated to determine the possible punishment.
Political advertising and its regulation are crucial for the outcome of elections. How the influence of voters works through negative advertising has already been examined in various studies, whereby it was determined that negative advertising can significantly influence voter perception. Article such as that of Springer examine the effects of political advertising on the voters and emphasize the importance of compliance with advertising in election campaign times.
