Winter has a firm grip on Burgenland, and with it the usual suspects: colds, flu and the omnipresent covid 19 pandemic. In calendar week 47, a total of 7,190 people had to report sick in Burgenland, as data from the Austrian Health Insurance Fund show. However, there is a decline in sick leave compared to the previous year.

compared to the 8,519 sick reports in the previous year, a positive trend is shown. The number of corona feasts is also declining: While there were 997 cases in calendar week 47 of the previous year, only 164 infections were reported last week. The decision to consider Covid-19 no more as reportable disease also affects the number of tests.

Although the Covid 19 cases are falling, flu infections and influenza diseases increase. Chief physician Andreas Krauter from the ÖGK strongly recommends the flu vaccination to prevent serious disease courses. Vaccination lowers the risk of hospital stays and complications, such as pneumonia.
