Rust world premiere: minute's silence for killed camera frames

In an emotional ceremony, the world premiere of the film “Rust” took place in Poland, which was characterized by a minute's silence for the camera hutchins killed during the shooting. The US director Joel Souza paid tribute to Hutchins during the Camerimage Film Festival in Torun, which was considered talented storyteller. He emphasized that one day she would have become a director if her life had not ended in a tragic incident in 2021.

The event, however, took place under a shadow because Olga Solovey, the mother of the late Hutchins, canceled her participation in the premiere. This decision was a direct reaction to Alec Baldwin's refusal to apologize to her or to take responsibility for the death of her daughter. Solovey said about her lawyer, Gloria Allred that Baldwin wants to benefit unjustly from the tragedy. Solovey originally planned to take part in the premiere if the situation in Ukraine allowed.

The terrible incident in the filming

The deadly incident occurred in October 2021 during filming the western “Rust” on a film ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Alec Baldwin, who is both the main actor and the film producer, fiddled with a weapon when a shot loosened. Halyna Hutchins, who was tragically injured, leaves her husband and a son. The director Joel Souza was also injured by the projectile. A subsequent investigation showed that the weapon was loaded with real ammunition, which led to far -reaching discussions about the security practices on the set.

The arms master Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, responsible for security on the set, was sentenced to 18 months in prison last spring for negligent killing. However, the circumstances, as the sharp ammunition got on the location, are still unclear. Both Baldwin and Gutierrez-Reed have always emphasized that they are not to blame for the incident.

The path of justice and the continuation of the film

Alec Baldwin was also faced with a separate procedure for negligent killing, but was discontinued in July. There were allegations against the public prosecutor that she had held back evidence. In another aspect of the case, Hutchin's husband, Matthew, has achieved an out -of -court settlement with Baldwin and the production company.

The filming for "Rust" was temporarily stopped after the accident. However, Joel Souza resumed the work on the film in Montana 2023, emphasizing that Hutchins' legacy should live on in the film world. According to Souza, the camera woman had decisively shaped the character and style of the film, which means that the film continues to wear its handwriting.

like Marek Zydowicz, the organizer of the Camerimage Film Festival, said that the decision to present "Rust" there was a tribute to Hutchins. Her dream was that this film was shown at this festival, where she met many of her friends. The aim of this premiere was to focus on the artistic performance of the cameramen.

"Rust" tells the story of Harland Rust, played by Baldwin, and his grandson, who are on the run from the law. The film combines classic western elements with inspiring landscape shots and an emotional journey between grandpa and grandchildren who get closer during their adventure.
