Over 106,000 euros for children with cancer: benefit gala in the Europa-Park
The benefit gala in the Europa-park Rust once again set a strong sign of solidarity and support for families with children with cancer. With a donation of impressive 106,978 euros, the "Förderverein for Cancer Children Freiburg" was once again able to collect important means to finance its projects.
On November 21, around 380 guests met for this year's dinner show under the motto "Help helps!", Which was organized by the initiator Werner Kimmig. In his welcoming speech, Kimmig expressed his thanks to the guests and especially to the Mack family of owners, which has supported the event since 2003. So far, over 2 million euros have been collected for a good cause due to this solemn occasion.
prominent support and high costs
The attendees also included some celebrities this year, including Paola Felix, Willi Stächele and the long-time head of the Freiburg children's and youth clinic, Dr. Charlotte Niemeyer. The commitment of the guests is particularly valuable for Kimmig, since the support association is urgently dependent on donations. In his speech, he referred to the newly opened parents' house, which is right next to the University Children's Clinic Freiburg and was fully financed from donations. The association is borne by the association's construction costs of 14.5 million euros and the monthly maintenance costs of around 140,000 euros. This enables parents to stay close to their seriously ill children, which is of crucial importance for the healing process.
"We had over 2100 overnight stays in the last month alone," said Kimmig. He recalled that his volunteering began in 1983 after he had witnessed how hard it was for parents seriously ill children to stay nearby. At that time there were no suitable accommodation opportunities for these families. The support association was founded out of a request to remedy these grievances.
Overall, the support association has now built three parents' houses and continuously invests in projects that improve the quality of treatment and care for children and their families. In this regard, there are also aspects such as a kindergarten for siblings, support for orphaned parents and mobile cancer therapies on the agenda.
entertainment at a high level
The entertainment of the guests provided a varied show program under the title "The World is not Enough". Moderator Sebastian Rosenbaum led through the evening, accompanied by Stéphane Bulcourt, which is known for his humorous deposits. The program offered a fascinating mix of talents from all over the world and impressed show performances by the Europa Park Ballet.
The culinary delights were served by the two-star chef Peter Hagen-Wiest from the “Ammolite-The Lighthouse Restaurant” restaurant, which created an exclusive four-course menu. The event was also supported by wines and schnapps, which were provided by winemakers from Oberkirch and Durbach, which also made the evening a festive experience.
The great commitment of all those involved, both the organizers and the participants, is an important sign of the fight against cancer and the endeavor to offer affected families in difficult times. "I can assure you that every cent that is entrusted to us also matters to the children," Kimmig concluded his speech. This underlines the trust and transparency with which this association works and emphasizes the importance of any support, even if only in the form of small amounts that come from their own piggy bank.
