Austria grows: Vienna has an increase in 1.1 percent!
A new report by statistics Austria reveals that the population of Austria has grown to exactly 9,198,214 people at the beginning of 2025. This corresponds to an increase of 39,464 people or 0.4 percent compared to the previous year. The increase in the proportion of foreigners, which is now 20.2 percent, is particularly striking, which corresponds to 1,855,624 people. A year ago, this value was still 19.7 percent. This shows a shift in the demographic structure, with Vienna taking the tip of all federal states with 36.4 percent of the foreign population, followed by Vorarlberg (20.9 percent) and Salzburg (20.8 percent), such as vienna.at reported.

Vienna recorded the highest so -called percentage growth of all federal states with 1.1 percent, while Carinthia only grew by 0.1 percent. Particularly interesting developments were observed in urban centers: Sankt Pölten increased by 1.5 percent, while Graz grew up 0.9 percent. In Carinthia the growth was minimal, and in Burgenland there was even a slight decline of 0.04 percent.
Another remarkable detail is the distribution of the population movements within Vienna. While a decline was recorded in seven districts, 16 districts experienced an increase, especially in the Danube city with an increase of 3.3 percent. The events in Vienna and the other federal states also raise linguistic questions that deal with the presentation of statistics and how to deal with percentages. The discussion about the correct use of singular or plural in percentages is often discussed, as in a contribution to
