New flood protection measure in Riedlingsdorf: groundbreaking for retention basin
In the market town of Riedlingsdorf, an important step has been taken in the field of flood protection. The groundbreaking ceremony for a new retention basin on the Pinka feeder Lehmgraben took place on Tuesday, with the aim of better protecting endangered settlement areas from extreme weather events. Infrastructure Councilor Heinrich Dorner emphasized that this measure was crucial to preserve the people and their houses from the consequences of floods.
The retention basin will require an investment of around one million euros and is to be completed by the end of 2025. It is part of a comprehensive flood protection concept that also includes implemented measures in the region. The aim of this initiative is to significantly reduce the risk of flood events that can occur once in 100 years.
measures to minimize flood damage
The Pinka feeder Lehmgraben has already caused considerable floods in the past, especially in the area of upper and lowerangers. Around 12,000 square meters of settlement area and 80 people are currently threatened by such flood events. The new retention basin is intended to help minimize these dangers. In order to achieve an effective solution, the Pinka Bridge of the L360 has also been raised by 65 centimeters in recent years.
The need for these measures can be seen in the recent heavy rain events that have made the vulnerability of the area clear. "These events have shown how important our committed approach is," said Dorner. He emphasized that the government continues to implement projects to improve flood protection and that the protection of the population has a top priority.
A total of around 200 million euros have been invested in flood protection measures in Burgenland since 2010. Even for this year, more than 14 million euros have been made available to improve the infrastructure and to protect the population as best as possible.
