Blessing of the retention basin: Piringsdorf protects itself from flooding
d as retention basin in the Piringsdorfer Graben, a significant flood protection project, was inaugurated last Friday. The construction of the pelvis, which serves as a preventive measure against floods, began in July 2022 and was completed in spring 2023. This measure is particularly important because the region is increasingly affected by heavy rains that increase the risk of floods.
Mayor Thomas Hauser welcomed the guests present and emphasized the relevance of the project in his speech. He explained that the retention basin can absorb up to 7,125 cubic meters of water in extreme rain events, which decisively contributes to protecting the local area from possible floods. A total of around 400,000 euros flowed into the construction of this important building.
ceremonial ceremony and musical accompaniment
The ceremony was musically framed by the Piringsdorf youth band and created a festive atmosphere. After the pelvic blessing, the citizens were invited to an Agape that enabled the participants to end the evening with pleasant company.
The investment in the retention basin underlines the commitment of the municipality of Piringsdorf not only to offer its citizens a safe living environment, but also to react proactively to the challenges of climate change. Special infrastructural measures aim to minimize the negative effects of such extreme weather conditions.
With the completion of the retention basin, the municipality shows that it reacts to the effects of climate change and is actively working on the improvement of flood protection. This initiative ensures that the citizens can continue to live in a safe environment while the weather conditions change. The basis for future measures is laid, and it is to be hoped that such projects will also be considered in other affected regions.
