Water management for the Neusiedler See: Citizens shape the future
e In a new project to improve water management around the Neusiedler See, attention has attracted attention. Sustainable handling of water is becoming increasingly important, especially in times of increasing rainfall and at the same time increasing drought. The initiative, which was launched by Foster Europe, a foundation based in Esterhazy Castle in Eisenstadt, wants to be active here.
As part of this project, the topic of water management is examined in a total of eight EU countries. The Austrian contribution focuses particularly on the region around the Neusiedler See. The aim is to develop a participatory, sustainable and adaptable water management. This should be done in close cooperation with the citizens to ensure transparent and open participation of the public.
participation of the public
Citizen participation plays a central role in this approach. Workshops, information events and other formats are intended to incorporate suggestions from the population into the planning. In this way, residents should actively be involved in the development of solutions for the challenges in water management.
The importance of this project is also underpinned by the urgency of the topic. Climate change has a significant impact on the precipitation patterns, which means for the Neusiedler See region that it leads to both extreme rains and dry periods. A flexible and superior water management is required here to react to the changing conditions.
In addition to the foundation, involved in this project are various local actors, including representatives of the North Burgenland Tourism Association and the Neusiedler See - Seewinkel National Park. These collaborations are intended to develop a holistic strategy that not only benefits water management, but also takes into account the interests of residents and the environment.
The success of the project could have far -reaching positive effects on the water supply and the ecological situation in the region. Through close cooperation with the citizens, the aim is to find innovative solutions that meet both current needs and future challenges.
