Pinkafeld's indoor pool: Land secures the future for swimming courses and ice rink
A recent agreement between the country and the municipality of Pinkafeld, which is crucial for the future of the local swimming frastructure, was reached recently. On Tuesday evening, the municipal council finally decided that the country would take over the Pinkafeld indoor pool at a symbolic price of just one euro. This decision is an important step to secure the swimming facilities in the south of Burgenland.
Sports State Councilor Heinrich Dorner expressed a positive statement about this project and emphasized the importance of continuing to maintain indoor pools in view of the closures of swimming facilities in other federal states. "We stand by our swimming sites," he said. "By taking over the indoor pool, the future of the project 'Every child should learn to swim' is now secured in the long term."

This takeover includes not only the operation of the indoor pool, but also the modernization of the adjacent ice rink. The mayor of Pinkafeld, Kurt Maczek, described the day as "historical for our city" and thanked for the support of the country, without which the indoor pool could not continue to be operated. "The residents can use the swimming area and the sauna area all year round, and schools continue to have access to the ice rink in winter," added Vice Mayor Adrian Kubat.
The SPÖ is satisfied with this solution, since it had given the promise to preserve the locations of the indoor pools in the government program of 2020. The FPÖ and NEOS in Pinkafeld also support the deal because it is considered necessary to maintain the infrastructure for the population.
In connection with the takeover, the status of the Eisenstadt indoor pool continues to remain unchanged. It is still operated by the state capital, although discussions about a possible takeover were also held here. The last major renovation of this bathroom only took place in 2010, which is why it is in good condition.
The negotiated package for the indoor pool in Pinkafeld and the modernization of the ice rink is further developed by the Burgenland state properties. Specific plans for modernization have not yet been presented, but it is expected to be developed in the coming months.
In summary, the takeover of the indoor pool by the country is a significant step to ensure the swimming frastructure for the population and to promote sporting activities in the region. Another success for the swimming projects in Burgenland is that more than 1,000 children of the second elementary school classes will visit swimming courses in Pinkafeld and Eisenstadt. According to this agreement, the initiative remains secured in the long term, which underlines the importance of this measure.More details on this topic are in a recent article on Kurier.at find.
