Foods are precious: Family hiking day in Gols for environmental protection
Last Sunday, around 150 hiking friends gathered in the picturesque community of Gols on Lake Neusiedlerse to take part in the family hiking day, which was organized by the Working Group (ARGE) of the farmers. With this event they celebrated the World Lady Day and the World Food Day, both of which take place in the second half of October. The motto was: "Quality has a name - foods are precious". With this campaign, the ARGE of the farmers would like to raise awareness of the important role of the farmers in the preservation of livelihoods and the production of healthy foods.Under bright sunshine, the group made its way from the Golser athlete's arbor over the popular Golser Weinweg, which is suitable for both strollers and families. The hiking route led through the beautiful landscape on the Goldberg and Hasensteig before taking a first break in the main square to the "Summakuchl". The end of the approximately nine -kilometer route took place on a viewing platform with a wonderful view over the region before the way back to the starting point began.
support and culinary delights
The families were able to fortify themselves after the hike with a cozy end. An estimation game also offered the participants the chance to win a gift basket with regional delicacies. At the Labstation at the "Summakuchl", hikers were also spoiled with seasonal and homemade specialties. These activities not only contributed to the community, but also illustrated how tasty regional products are in the catering trade.
A central concern of the organizers was to point out the participants how precious food is. In Austria, around 96,000 tons of food end up in residual waste every year, which corresponds to around 300 euros per household. The organizers explained that products can often still be edible even after the minimum preservation date. However, many still throw intact products or original packaged foods in the trash.
awareness of consciousness in times of crisis
In view of the climate crisis and the increasing cost of living, careful handling of food is particularly important. The participants were called to buy only the food they really need and to extend the durability of their food by better storing. With these requests, the ARGE of the farmers not only wants to protect their own wallet, but also exert a positive influence on the environment. These approaches are essential at a time when sustainability and environmental protection are becoming increasingly important. With events like this family hiking day, the ARGE of the farmers not only looks at the achievements of women in agriculture, but also emphasizes the responsibility of each individual in dealing with food. Further information about these and future events can be found on the ARGE website, where the important messages for food valuation and environmental protection are widely discussed.
