New bodycams for police officers: Security and de -escalation in focus!
The Viennese authorities introduced a new security instrument with great tension: from the end of March, police officers will be equipped with body cams during their patrol. These portable cameras should not only increase the security of the police officers, but also serve as clear evidence in controversial missions, as can be seen from a report by orf.at . Interior Minister Herbert Kickl symbolically handed over the first ten devices to the police vice president Franz Eigner and emphasized the increasing necessity of such technology due to the increasing physical attacks on the law enforcement officers.
The officials are taught in training when and how the body cams are used, whereby filming must be clearly announced in certain official actions. Police spokesman Helmut Marban explains that the cameras can help to de -escalate escalating situations by often calming the knowledge of the recording of those involved. The cameras are only activated if really necessary, and the data is safe and not directly accessible to the officials to prevent abuse. From oe24.at it was also reported that a transparent documentation with which camera films and with what use.
a strong step towards security
The introduction of these body cams in Burgenland and in Vienna is an important step to protect the police and to maintain the legality in potentially delicate situations. Until the middle of the year, all departments in Burgenland should be equipped with devices, while 20 out of 140 cameras are already being used in Vienna. These measures clearly show that the authorities proactively take action against violence and at the same time want to respect the rights of everyone involved. The use of this technology could not only increase security for the police, but also promote the trust of the population in the police.
