Flu wave rolls on: rising infections before the holidays!

The flu rapidly spreads in Austria, and this is not a good news shortly before the festive days! According to the MedUni Vienna, the Center for Virology shows worrying figures on influenza activity: in the calendar week 50, 2,224 flu cases per 100,000 inhabitants were registered, a significant increase compared to 1,909 infections a week before. Only three federal states - Vorarlberg, Salzburg and Carinthia - have so far been able to stay away from the virus, while first cases have occurred in Burgenland. In all other federal states, the flu has already been demonstrated several times, which the warnings of the experts underpinning the urgency of this development, as well as Kurier reported.

The symptoms of the flu are unmistakable: sudden exhaustion, high fever and dry cough make the virus a serious threat, which is far more than a harmless flu. In Austria, five to 15 percent of the population fall ill annually, and it is estimated that around 1,000 people die from the consequences of an infection. According to expert information, children from the 6th month of life, older people and people with a weakened immune system are particularly vulnerable groups. Fortunately, the flu shot is available for the first time this year, which should make it easier to combat the virus, as Krone . The national vaccination committee recommends vaccination for everyone who wants to protect themselves from a difficult course.

The increasing number of infections and the clear recommendation for vaccination are a wake -up call for the population: take care of yourself and do not be afraid to take advantage of the protective measures!
