Christmas in Antau: gifts and art for poor children!
Last Friday, the community center in Antau experienced a festive atmosphere when the SPÖ-Santau invited to the traditional team Christian child campaign. Visitors had the opportunity to pack gifts for children at risk of poverty, while they lingered in the Christmas spirit with mulled wine and delicious Langos. A total of 293 gift packages were collected, which have already been handed over to the Samaritan Association to enable children in Burgenland a Merry Christmas. The charming handmade works of art by local artists provided additional spells and joy, reported Meinzirk.at.masked poverty in Burgenland
But while the event was spreading festive joy, Caritas gave insights into the dark reality of poverty in Austria. According to Melanie Balaskovics, the director of Caritas Burgenland, around 360,000 people in Austria are acutely affected by poverty. The situation is particularly alarming for many single parents, who often suffer from the pressure of high living and living costs. A current case from Eisenstadt describes the fate of a single parent who has to make up for the rest of the month with only 150 euros after all fixed costs have been deducted. These figures underline the need for initiatives such as the Elisabeth collection of Caritas, which will be carried out on November 17, 2024 to support families in need, as Caritas-Burgenland.at reported.
The increasing housing costs and the burdens of inflation illustrate the need for broader support. Many people, according to Balaskovics, are afraid to take advantage of help and often feel affected by shame and fear of stigmatization. Caritas is therefore committed to increased social support and appeals to all Burgenlanders to make a contribution and to show themselves in solidarity with the needy.
