FPÖ Burgenland: Hofer announces duel with Doskozil for the state election

The FPÖ Burgenland presented its election program for the upcoming state election on January 19 on Tuesday. Norbert Hofer, the top candidate of the freedom, predicts an exciting election campaign that is expected to develop into a duel with the current governor Hans Peter Doskozil. Hofer was optimistic about a possible participation in the government of his party.

Johann Tschürtz, club chairman of the FPÖ, opened the press conference with a balance of previous political work and carried out sharp criticism of the increasing energy prices of Burgenland Energie and the handling of the minimum wage. Alexander Petschnig, state party leader, agreed to criticize and emphasized the need to stabilize the state budget and regulate the large number of national companies.

diverse topics in the election program

The comprehensive election program of the FPÖ comprises 56 pages and deals with numerous important topics such as work, living, transport, energy, security, the processing of corona pandemic, immigration, family and education. Norbert Hofer underlined that his vision includes a departure from "communist nationalization policy". He emphasized the need to reduce bureaucracy to create the framework conditions that enable the Burgenland to achieve their personal goals.

his approach also includes a comprehensive review of the existing laws in order to delete unnecessary regulations. In the health sector, Hofer sees a significant lack of specialist staff, while he finds an over -occupation in the public sector. "So there is a lot to do," says Hofer, who is looking forward to presenting his ideas in the upcoming election campaign.

In terms of future coalition formation, Hofer assumes that a collaboration between the SPÖ and the ÖVP is excluded "real -political", which he sees confirmed by numerous conversations. He considers that the FPÖ will be part of the future state government.

In his opinion, the election campaign will worsen a confrontation between him and Doskozil. Even if he and Doskozil represent different views in many political questions, Hofer maintains a "very good" relationship with him, which is based on regular meetings. This also applies to the dialogue with the ÖVP state party leader Christian Sagartz and other political actors in the region.

criticism of the SPÖ of the statements of the FPÖ

The reaction of the SPÖ for the presentation of the election program was not long in coming. Jasmin Puchwein, the managing director of the SPÖ in Burgenland, found that Hofer apparently took over the ÖVP's “counter-alles program”. According to Puchwein, the common goal of ÖVP and FPÖ is to "bring black and blue to the government" and to end the successful course of governor Doskozil.

The political landscape in Burgenland is therefore competitive, while the FPÖ's election campaign is clearly gaining drive. In the coming weeks it will be shown in the voters and who ultimately prove to be the stronger in the duel between Hofer and Doskozil.
