In Eisenstadt, an important project for the heat turnaround has started that creates Austria's first fossil-free KEM focus region. On October 11, 2024, the kick -off event for the ambitious project "Heat turning Eisenstadt & surroundings" took place. The initiative is a joint effort of research in Burgenland in cooperation with the municipalities and the state of Burgenland. The aim is to develop a climate -friendly energy system in the heating area within the next three years.
This comprehensive climate and energy model region (KEM) includes the state capital Eisenstadt and 14 surrounding communities, including Breitenbrunn, Donnerskirchen and Mörbisch. "The Burgenland has set itself ambitious goals with its climate strategy. The heat turnaround in Eisenstadt and the surrounding area is a crucial component to achieve balance sheet climate neutrality by 2030," said Governor-Stv.in Mag.a Astrid Eisenkopf.
a strong commitment to sustainability
The project is supported by funding of one million euros, an investment that Mag. Bernd Vogl rates the managing director of the climate and energy funds as extremely promising. "Our funding of one million euros is well invested here in Burgenland," said Vogl
Research Burgenland has prevailed in a competitive application process and thus shows the importance of the initiative. The implementation of this heat transition is essential because the region has already noticeable effects of climate change, such as extreme heat and heavy rain. Managing Director Marcus Keding emphasizes the need to become active in the communities: "If the climate as a whole changes, we have to change."
The project will include a variety of measures. This includes the exchange of fossil heating, the increase in efficiency in the area of space heat, the expansion of district heating and the support of low -energy households. In addition, the awareness of the topics of energy and the environment should be strengthened by extensive information and educational measures.
common goals and future cooperation
For the project manager Diin Marion Schönfeldinger, the cooperation between 15 Burgenland communities and numerous stakeholders is a strong sign of the future: "This shoulder closure underlines the common commitment to a sustainable and climate -friendly future in the Burgenland region."
Overall, the heat transition should bring both economic advantages and indicate the urgent need for transformation in dealing with energy. The successful cooperation of everyone involved will be crucial for the achievement of the climate goals.
