Burgenland's sports association starts initiative for a lively sports guild

In Burgenland, there is an important step in the field of sport. The Sportunion Burgenland has launched an initiative that not only takes into account the upcoming state elections in January 2025, but should also reform sporting life in the state. At a press conference in Eisenstadt, a sports policy impulse program was presented that aims to advance the sport across party borders.

With this program, the sports association pursues the goal of supporting sports through new ideas and suggestions. This includes in particular the promotion of sports clubs and the support of young and senior sports. In order to obtain the opinions and needs within the sports landscape of Burgenland, parties that already work on elections have already been interviewed on these topics.

focus on sports facilities and club sports

One of the central concerns of the sports union is to improve the sports infrastructure. This should not only be modernized, but also made more accessible to everyone. In particular, the existing school sports facilities are to be opened to clubs in order to promote sporting activities among the population. Playgrounds and parks are also to be used as movement stations in order to encourage children and seniors in particular.

"We are planning to create a digital sports facility atlas," said Karin Ofner, President of the Sportunion Burgenland. This digital tool is intended to offer a comprehensive overview of the various sports offers in Burgenland and help everyone interested to better orient themselves.

also emphasizes the need to bring volunteering in Burgenland sport again. "The volunteers are the backbone of the clubs. Here we need recognition and support," she added. With a reduction in bureaucratic hurdles and less formalism, the sports union wants to significantly improve the framework conditions for the club.

Initiative for municipal cooperation

Another key point of the initiative is to improve the cooperation between the 171 municipalities of the Burgenland and over 1,000 sports clubs. This partnership is to be strengthened by creating a new coordination site, known as the "sports community of Burgenland". A corresponding concept was already presented in 2022.

"Sport connects across all party borders and lives from partnerships with the communities," said Sascha Krikler, initiator of the sports council initiative. "We hope that the upcoming state government will support these concepts with the necessary look at the future."

The impulse program of the Sportunion Burgenland could bring far -reaching changes for the state's sports landscape. It remains to be seen how the parties and the population react to this initiative and whether it will actually lead to a redesign of sport in Burgenland.
