Burning garage in Regensburg: Fire brigade Flink in use!

In the night of May 18, 2025, around 11:30 p.m., the rescue workers in Regensburg, Bavaria, were called for a fire in a garage in Siemensstrasse. Several callers informed the integrated control center (ILS) about the fire, which quickly led to a serious situation. The fire truck of the professional fire brigade and the Schwabelweis fire truck were alerted.

When arriving at the fire site, the inspection service found that part of an open series of garage was in full fire. The fire had already spread to a tree and was therefore a serious threat to adjacent buildings and the surrounding area. Thanks to a two-sided fire-fighting attack with C-pipes and heavy breathing protection, the spread to the commercial building next door could be prevented.

extinguishing measures and duration of use

The emergency services immediately initiated further extinguishing measures to extinguish burning rubbish in a large garbage can and the affected part of the garage. The extinguishing attack was successful and lasted until around 0:15 a.m. While the emergency services checked the surroundings, the aerial ladder was used to check the adjacent building. Despite the tilted windows on the second floor, no smoke was found inside.

After completing the extinguishing work, the Schwabelweis fire truck took over the occupation of the main fire station after its presence at the site was no longer required. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident.

Missing information on the cause of the fire

Current information on the cause of the fire and the amount of damage is still pending. So far, the fire brigade has not been able to provide any information. This uncertainty reflects the general problem with which fire protection in Germany is also faced. There is no comprehensive and uniform statistics on fire events, causes of fire or injuries and dead by fires. A better structured data collection could contribute to improving fire protection and is therefore of great importance.

In Germany, numerous sources for fire statistics and information are available, such as the German Fire Brigade Association, the Federal Statistical Office and the Institute for Damage Control and Damage Research. These statistics are important in order to obtain a more precise image of the fire protection situation and to develop strategies for risk reduction based on this. According to a report by Feuertrutz there are numerous international statistics to try to close these gaps.
