sustainable development and poverty control
The initiative of Boku and Caritas is started against the background of the discussions about the connection between poverty control and climate protection. There is always criticism of the priorities between survival and long -term environmental goals. The Caritas emphasizes that environmental protection should be seen as an opportunity for sustainable development. It is of great importance to implement strategies that offer immediate advantages, such as reducing the costs for clean energy and increasing the harvest income through sustainable agriculture.
The goal is clear: climate protection measures should support and do not hinder the fight against poverty. The urgent needs of the communities concerned must be recognized. Countries in the global north are also required to make their contribution to climate protection.
As part of the Agenda 2030 , which propagates a new understanding of global prosperity, climate protection, sustainable development and poverty fighting are considered closely related challenges. This agenda demands that the weakest and most vulnerable are particularly taken into account and that no one is left behind ("Leave No One Behind"). In order to successfully implement the formula of the 2030 Agenda, intensive international cooperation is required.
