Visitor record 2023: Marchfeld locks with 258,000 guests!
Schloss Hof, Österreich - The Schönbrunn Group looked back to 2024 and presented remarkable results. At all locations that belong to the group, including the famous Schönbrunn Castle, the Möbelmuseum Vienna, the Sisi Museum, Hof and Castle Castle Niederweiden, the number of visitors has increased. Around 4,776,000 guests were recorded in the balance sheet for 2023, which is an increase of 428,000 visitors compared to 2023. The increase in the Marchfeldschlösers is particularly gratifying, where 258,000 people visited Hof and Castle Niederweiden. This corresponds to an increase of 20,000 visitors or 8.4 percent compared to 2022, where 238,000 visitors were still counted, such as [oe24.at] (https://www.oe24.at/oesterreich/niederoesterreich/marchfeldschloesser-sich-ueber-258-besucher-im-im-im- year old year)) reported.
An important factor for this increase are various children's programs and special exhibitions that increased the attractiveness of the locations. Among other things, the Schönbrunn Group emphasizes the special exhibition "The Eugen behind the Prince - 300 Years Castle Hof", which will be shown until November 2, 2024. This exhibition addresses the expansion of the Renaissance castle to the baroque castle by Prince Eugen of Savoy-Carignan, who acquired Hof in 1725
visitor flows and demographic trends
Schönbrunn Castle was the most visited location of the group in 2024 with about 3,593,000. In 2023, the German visitors provided the largest group, followed by travelers from Eastern Europe, the USA, Austria and Italy. A remarkable trend is the increase in international guests, especially from the USA and Asia, according to Leadersnet.at.
For 2022 there are also important figures that show an increase in visitors. This year the Schönbrunn Group recorded almost three times visitor numbers compared to 2021, with a total of approx. 3,159,000 guests, with 2,344,500 admissions in Schönbrunn Castle alone, such as meinzirk.at reports.
Financial results and investments
The financial situation of the Schönbrunn Group is also robust. In 2024 she achieved total sales of around 92,060,000 euros, with more than a third of ticket sales. In addition, around one sixth of the income from shop sales as well as rental and leases flowed. In 2024, around 15.5 million euros were also invested in construction and restoration projects. These include restoration work on the miniature cabinet and the blue Chinese salon in Schönbrunn Castle.
The Schönbrunn Group continues to plan to expand their offers and, in the process, are involved in a clear focus on sustainability. As part of these efforts, a Sustainability staff was set up to improve sustainability reporting and greenhouse gas balance. In addition, numerous events are being planned, including a DJ appearance by Paul Kalkbrenner in September and a Christmas market in November and December, which should further promote the number of visitors.
