Environmentalists are fighting: dark plans for Borkums North Sea gas!
In the bitter dispute over the controversial gas bores in front of Borkum, the German Environmental Aid (DUH) brings new legal steps into play. Despite a previously defeated defeat in court, the Dutch Group of ONE-Dyas tried again to receive permits for natural gas promotion and the laying of a nautical cable by protected stone reefs. This approval is of crucial importance because it could promote natural gas promotion, while outstanding complaints from DUH have to be clarified in court. Sascha Müller-Kraenner, federal manager of the DUH, demands clear measures from the environmental ministers to protect nature. He explains: "We have been fighting these gas drilling in the North Sea for more than two years ..." and emphasizes the need not to approve the sea cable to avoid further damage. The BUND Lower Saxony and the Citizens' Initiative Clean Air Ostfriesland also express their concern about the impending environmental damage associated with the project, as reported on the page of duh.de recorded.
The reported progress in the legal disputes show the serious tensions between the economic interests of the fossil fuel industry and the urgent requirements of nature conservation. While the group is aiming to open up the gas field in the North Sea, the pressure of environmental organizations and citizens' initiatives to stop these projects will not decrease in the future.
