Art installation in Salzburg: Human duality in the Kollegienkirche
In a fascinating art exhibition on March 12, 2025 in Salzburg and in Vienna's St. Stephen's Cathedral, the renowned artist Eva Petric will stimulate visitors to think with her impressive works. Under the title “I am an Earthling – what are you?” Petric wants to address human existence and its dual nature in the Salzburg Kollegienkirche until April 28th. A larger-than-life silhouette, floating in the church interior, allows viewers to grapple with the questions of good and evil, light and darkness. “It’s about the question: What does a person activate within themselves?” explained Christian Wallisch-Breitsching, head of the university parish, who describes the installation as particularly valuable in our uncertain times kathpress.at reported.
As part of this installation, a 17-minute sound composition is presented every hour on the hour, intensifying the experience. A special feature of this art is the mirror surface on the floor, which reflects the fragility of human identity and is reminiscent of the cycle of birth and death. Petric talks about how the longing for greater stability that goes beyond the material is a central aspect of human nature.
A unique work of art in St. Stephen's Cathedral
In both Salzburg and Vienna, Petric brings viewers to grapple with the most fundamental question of human identity. Her works are the result of intensive reflections on being human and at the same time illustrate the connections between art and life issues.
