Green demand consequences: Signa scandal shakes financial world!
The Greens are emphasized with the controversy around the investor René Benko and his company Signa. In a comprehensive 73-page final report, which was presented by the Greens Group leader Nina Tomaselli, a sharp record of the processes that led to Signa was drawn from Signa. It describes the business model as a "billion-dollar monopoly" based on an exaggerated use of international legal situations for real estate upgrading. According to Tomaselli, this risk was calculated as long as interest rates remained low and the real estate market flourished, but when these conditions swore, the entire system collapsed, which ended in a dramatic bankruptcy, as well as oe24.at reported.
political responsibility required
Tomaselli also renewed her allegations against Benko, which she had already raised in the U-Committee. She emphasized that Benko's "Hütchenpiel" appears to be misleading, but systematic weaknesses in the business model of legal nature. Politics are now obliged to take drastic measures to prevent such cases in the future. Among other things, the Greens are calling for sensitive punishments for not sufficient balance sheets and greater control by a new law that is currently being considered. According to Tomaselli, these measures are intended to prevent companies from being able to hide behind "bogus constructions". If possible, the National Council could decide on March 26 on these changes in the law, as vienna.at reported.
In addition, Tomaselli calls for a disclosure obligation for foundations and stricter tax regulations for luxury properties. In particular, the role of former politicians, such as Federal Chancellor A.D. Alfred Gusenbauer and Sebastian Kurz, is sharply criticized. Tomaselli emphasizes that the two were closely connected to Benko and that it was time to make the personnel interdependencies between business and politics transparent. With their report, the Greens also produce the appeal to politics to finally take responsibility and tackle the financial grievances caused by such dubious business practices.
