Dawn in the nest: an interactive theater experience of the extra class!
Karlsplatz 5, 1010 Wien, Österreich - Rarely has a play caused as much a stir as Nestervals the latest production, which celebrated its premiere in Vienna on December 14, 2024. With “Götterdämung - The Day After”, the innovative theater group presents a radical redefinition of Wagner's classic, which is not only gender fluid and climate -critical, but also actively integrates the audience into the plot. The idea is released from the age of 16 and promises to blow up the boundaries of classic theater. Here every viewer not only experiences the story as an observer, but is also interacted by the various rooms of the theater and interacts with the characters, such as Kleinezeitung.at reported.
an immersive experience in 2038
The action takes place in 2038, a dark future in which the gods fell and mankind sinks into greed and destruction. Water becomes new gold, while nature is mercilessly exploited. The audience is transferred to the role of a climate that has to make decisions about the future. This reinterpretation illuminates the characters from Wagner's world through new perspectives and turns existing gender roles upside down - this is how traditional figures such as Wotan and Erda are staged as a couple of mothers. With direct music accompaniment, the actors and stage musicians contribute to the dense atmosphere of the evening by leading the spectators through different sub-scenes and thus influencing the mood in the room, such as nest.at holds.
Despite the complex and interactive structure, the concept of performance is masterfully thought out, so that the groups in the theater work synchronously and the audience can always return to central points. A highlight is the musical accompaniment in which a chamber orchestra plays motifs from the "goddom" and strengthens the emotional depth of the performance. The combination of theater and music creates a unique experience - and a complete utilization of the tickets shows that the audience wants to get involved in this trip. With several performances by December 19, the only question remains: How will the story go on and will humanity remain a way to survive?
