Surprise! Fewer convictions despite the explosion -like ads!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - A heated debate sparked the discussion about the alleged explosion of right -wing extremists in the previous year. ORF reported several times about it based on statements by SPÖ MP Sabine Schatz. Criticism comes from the FPÖ, who notes that the statement of treasure is based on pure advertising statistics. Sebastian Schwaighofer, the freedom spokesman for left -wing extremism, also criticized that the convictions due to these ads were not sufficiently considered. According to Schwaighofer, the judicial statistics show that the number of convictions in 2024, compared to the previous year, has decreased - from 232 to 215. "We see a massive research failure of the ORF," says Christian Hafenecker, the general secretary of the FPÖ, who describes the reporting as one -sided.
The debate is further fueled by the FPÖ. She sees a staged "democratic crisis" that is promoted by manipulative data interpretation. "Freedom of expression of the citizens must be better protected," says Hafenecker. In addition, the FPÖ criticizes that left-wing extremism cases in reporting are largely ignored. Schwaighofer emphasizes that in recent years the number of unfounded suspicions has increased significantly - from 1,735 to 2,396. This not only endangers the existence of many citizens, but also show that innocent people are being pursued unjustified.
advertising spending on the public sector and their explosion
parallel to the political discussions there are developments in the field of advertising expenditure. The new media transparency data show a dramatic increase in public expenditure. In the first half of 2024, expenditure amounted to a total of 196.5 million euros, compared to only 77.5 million euros in the same period of the previous year. This increase is attributed to a reform of the Media Transparency Act, which also includes expenses for non -periodic media. The Ministry of Climate Protection and Energy in particular was the largest advertiser in the state sector at 4.9 million euros.
These findings raise questions because the government and public bodies significantly expand their advertising expenses. The high sum that the ORF, the largest advertising recipient has received: 13.3 million euros is particularly striking. This is in contrast to the discussion about the massive climbs on right -wing extremists and the at the same time declining convictions. In this context, the role of social media is also emphasized, where, for example, Google and Meta also recorded significant advertising spending from public bodies, which indicates increased focus on advertising in digital platforms.
