in Hodeidah was killed at least one person in the attack. In addition, three other people were reported as missing, and the rescue and search operations are ongoing, Al-Masirah continued.
Israel's military justification
The Israeli army stated that it attacked “military goals” that belong to the Houthis supported by Iran. In a statement, the Israeli defense forces (IDF) announced: "The attacked goals contained military infrastructures that are used by the Houthi terrorist regime for military activities both at the Sanaa International Airport as well as in the Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power plants."
Humanitarian situation in Yemen
In addition to the attacks on Sanaa, military infrastructures were also attacked in the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Kanatib on the west coast. CNN cannot verify the IDF's statements independently. In the past few months, the Houthi's rockets have fired in Israeli cities, which they interpret in response to the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, in which over 45,300 Palestinians were killed. The Israeli army has attacked several times Yemen since the beginning of the war, triggered by the Hamas robbery on October 7th.
UN delegation under fire
A UN delegation was in Yemen to negotiate the release of UN employees and to assess the health and humanitarian situation. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described the moment: "When we just wanted to climb our flight from Sanaa, there was an air raid on the airport. A member of our flight crew was injured." He added: "The air traffic controller, the departure hall - just a few meters away from us - and the runway were damaged. We have to wait for the damage to the airport before we can leave."
reactions to the attacks
The Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam commented on X on Thursday and explained that Israel had attacked the airport in Sanaa and other "civilian infrastructures", and condemned this as "crimes against the Yemeni people." According to a telegram channel connected to the Houthis, power plants were also attacked in Sanaa and Hodeidah.
The United States and the United Kingdom attacked the Houthis in the past, after the group had disturbed shipping traffic in the Red Sea, one of the most frequented waterways in the world. The US State Department sees the Houthis as a global terrorist organization.
additional attacks in the region
Last week a Tel Aviv floor fired from Yemen met, Israel's second largest city, and injured at least 16 people. A few days earlier, Israel had intercepted another rocket fired by the Houthis, in which debris caused considerable damage to a school near Tel Aviv.
