School maturity in danger: worries of kindergarten lines in Austria!

Österreich - In Austria there is great concern about the school maturity of many children. According to a current survey, published by the Krone , 70 percent of the kindergarten lines surveyed have no feeling about the school maturity of over half of their children. The reasons for this are extensive: Many children show deficits in cognitive, linguistic and social-emotional development, which is particularly noticeable in kindergartens in which a high proportion of children from non-German-speaking families is looked after.

integration and challenges

The research team under the direction of Bernhard Koch from the Tyrol University of Education has brought data from several federal states to analyze the situation in these so -called "focal kindergartens". Despite the challenges in integration, the kindergarten lines report a positive working atmosphere; Nine out of ten replied that a culture of integration was actively promoted, for example by singing songs in different languages. Nevertheless, a large part of the respondents emphasized that it has become increasingly difficult to work with children from migration experiences, since many have little contact with German -speaking children and their parents. 59 percent of managers feel particularly difficult to cooperate.

The demands on politics are according to orf unmistakable: In order to improve the school maturity of the children sustainably, better care keys and more financial funds for focal kindergartens are necessary. In addition, it is emphasized that children should acquire appropriate knowledge of German at the latest at the latest in order not to fall back at school. The worrying trends and considerable challenges illustrate the urgent need for an action plan to meet the needs of these children and their families.
