Leipzig celebrates Mendelssohn: a festival of music and legends!

Leipzig, Deutschland - Discover the music city of Leipzig in your full splendor! Because without the brilliant genius Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, this city would certainly not be what it is today. The extraordinary composer, pianist and educator died at the age of 38, but left a heir that shines far beyond his time. Mendelssohn ensured the revival of Bach and other baroque sizes and founded the first German conservatory here in Leipzig. In order to commemorate this musical giant, the city organizes a spectacular festival every year on its day of death, which this time is celebrated on November 4th for the 177th time!

This year the festival is all about the big stars! Marek Janowski and the legendary Daniel Barenboim will illuminate the Gewandhaus. Janowski presents the venerable house orchestra of Mendelssohn, while Barenboim and his Western Eastern Divan gives a benefit appearance for the master's historical house. In addition to an order work by the Gewandhaus composer Thomas Adès, who celebrates its German premiere there, Mendelssohn's music will of course be the focus!

But that's not all! Top -class artists such as Emmanuel Pahud, Sol Gabetta, Elena Bashkirova and Dorothea Röschmann appear in just seven days - names that are otherwise only known as individual highlights! Michael Barenboim, the vomat son of the Maestro, will also give a very special matinee in the original music salon of the Mendelssohn family. And the Gewandhaus also has an organ concert with the talented Michael beauty in a flash that you shouldn't miss!

In special tours of the Mendelssohn-Haus, we not only commemorate Mendelssohns, but also Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's 275th birthday, who once eyed and admired the young composer.
