Chiharu Shiota enchants Prague: magical threads and inconsistent souls!

The international fame of the artist Chiharu Shiota is now also shining in Prague, where her first exhibition "The Unsettled Soul" was opened in the Kunsthalle Praha. This impressive show, which began on November 28, 2024 and lasted until April 28, 2025, illuminates the central topic of human existence - life, death and memory. In the Kunsthalle, an architectural masterpiece from the 1930s, Shiota captivates visitors with their magical thread installations. Over 400 kilometers of threads that meander through the gallery create a visual metaphor for the invisible connections between humans and cultures, such as Kultur-online reported.

impressive installations and their importance

shiotas that also received great attention abroad create emotional response and invite you to think about the fragility of human relationships. In one of the four monumental installations, inspired by the Moldova, Shiota symbolizes the connection between cultures and time as a flowing state. These thread installations that hang on a shelf and meet the atmosphere in flowing movements are reminiscent of the river, which is interwoven in Prague culture and history. Like designscene.net , the place becomes an experience room that is both poetic and thoughtful.

Another striking work is an installation with a burned piano that urges loss and memory. This creation, which arises from a personal childhood memory, represents the absence of music and becomes a symbol of things that we no longer have but still wear in our memory. Shiota's color symbolism intensifies the emotional content of their works, with red threads for life straps and black threads standing for infinity. The exhibition also offers insights into Shiota's artistic development, which culminates in its distinctive thread art, creating a space for personal reflection and identity exploration.
