On Thursday, October 3, 2024, a serious traffic accident occurred on the BAB 60 between the Prüm and Bleialf junctions, which affected several vehicles and drivers. The accident occurred around 4:25 p.m. and involved three cars. A 35-year-old driver, who was driving from Prüm towards Belgium, left her lane for unknown reasons and initially collided with the right guard rail. This collision caused her car to cross into oncoming traffic, where it collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, also driven by a 35-year-old driver.
The chaos continued when a third vehicle, driven by a 31-year-old driver, collided with one of the two cars involved in the accident. This collision resulted in several injuries, although the two 35-year-old drivers only suffered minor injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. However, the driver, who was driving from Belgium, sustained more serious injuries, which fortunately were not life-threatening, and had to be flown to a clinic in a rescue helicopter.
Emergency services on site
Numerous emergency services were mobilized for the rescue and clean-up work on site. The fire departments of the surrounding towns, the Prüm police, the federal police and the highway maintenance department were deployed. There were also several ambulances on site that were able to quickly provide medical assistance to the injured.
