A serious traffic accident on state road 3199 near Bad Orb caused considerable chaos on Sunday evening. A total of four vehicles were involved in the incident, which resulted in seven injuries and material damage of over 43,000 euros.
The emergency services were alerted around 5:30 p.m. when reports came in of several cars being involved. It turned out on site that the accident had triggered a chain reaction. A 45-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Passat was traveling towards Bad Orb when, for reasons that are still unclear, he crossed into the oncoming lane. There he first collided with a Peugeot, which was driven by a 23-year-old woman, and a Skoda behind it, whose 70-year-old driver was also involved in the crash. After initial contact with the other vehicles, the Passat collided head-on with an Audi driven by a 28-year-old driver. The three remaining cars ended up in an adjacent field and the Peugeot on the side of the road, and all had to be towed away.
Injured groups
The injured include a ten-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Passat and two girls aged eight and ten who were driving the Skoda. These people suffered minor injuries. In comparison, the 70-year-old Skoda driver and the 28-year-old Audi driver suffered more serious injuries. All injured people were immediately transported to nearby hospitals to be treated.
The accident investigation and recovery of the vehicles led to the road being temporarily closed until around 8 p.m. Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the Bad Orb police station on 06052 9148-0.
