Masked knife attack: Discount store in Bedburg in shock!

In the Rhein-Erft district, a raid on a discount store in Bedburg took place on Tuesday evening (October 8th), which brought the authorities to the scene. A masked man, estimated to be around 20 years old and between 160 and 170 centimeters tall, entered the shop on Adolf-Silverberg-Strasse around 8:20 p.m. He was wearing a black hoodie and black pants and was armed with a knife, which he used against an employee to extort cash.

The perpetrator asked the employee to hand him money. During the attack, he reached into the cash register, took the cash and tried to escape. What was noticeable was that the unknown man slipped into a spilled liquid as he left the store and fell onto the wet floor. However, this did not stop him and he continued his escape.

Escape and calling for witnesses

After the fall, the perpetrator initially continued his escape towards a nearby hardware store, then turned behind the discount store towards the street “An der Wolle”. A second young man, who was around 175 centimeters tall and had a wider build, was waiting for him. This companion was wearing a light sweater and dark jeans. The two escaped together to an unknown destination.

The police were quickly informed and immediately initiated a search. While officers were securing evidence at the scene, an appeal was made to the public for help. Witnesses who have seen information about the incident or suspicious activity in the area around the time of the crime are asked to come forward. The investigators can be reached on 02271 81-0 or by email at poststelle.rhein-erft-kreis@polizei.nrw.de.

This incident underscores the perennial challenge of retail security and raises questions about the prevention of such attacks. The police have already filed a criminal complaint and started investigating the case.
